If you're a parent, you know that disciplining your children is a topic rife with ambiguity, subjectivity and heated debate, but imagine what it's like to be a teacher in that situation. Since the 19th and early 20th century with dunce caps and public spankings, school discipline has come a long way, and now teachers are held a lot more accountable for the children in their care, with punishments such as detentions, bans from extra-curricular activities and chokeholds now some of the preferred methods of retribution. Wait. That last one didn't sound quite right.
Picture this. You're a chemistry teacher in the middle of a very gruelling day, and for some reason, two of your students have decided to engage in Mortal Kombat. What do you do? Let's assume this isn't Breaking Bad and you can't just up and quit to run a meth lab with one of your former students. Generally speaking, you probably should break it up. Parents generally don't like their children to return home from school with black eyes, and it's a lot harder to explain the difference between covalent and ionic bonds if there are two people fighting off to the left somewhere. The question is, how do you go about doing that? If you're this teacher, the answer is neutralising chokehold. Fortunately (for us), another student was on hand to film the entire exchange. Turn to the next page to see how things unfolded.
